My Week in Books
- Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth.
I was a little hesitant to start reading a new Veronica Roth book, because I HATED the ending of the Divergent series. I hate when a really great book or series has an astoundingly disappointing ending, and I do not want to go through that again. However, I did really enjoy this otherworldly book. The world it’s set in is fascinating, and the relationship that developed between the two main characters was really sweet. I’m interested to see how things will play out in the next book. - Indie and the Brother’s Best Friend by R. Linda.
I LOVED this book, not quite as much as Bailey and the Bad Boy, but a lot. For some reason, I kept getting deja vu as I read this book, as if I had read it before – which is impossible because it was just released on January 30th. I eventually realized that the plot of this book is SO SIMILAR to The Consequence of Loving Colton (one of my favorite, favorite books). Not to go off on a tangent here, but if you haven’t read the Consequence series by Rachel van Dyken, DO IT. Those books are freaking hysterical; you will be crying laughing. Anyway, back to the book at hand. “Girl in love with her brother’s best friend” is by no means a groundbreaking plot point, but that did not lessen my enjoyment of Indie and the Brother’s Best Friend at all. I mean, honestly, these tropes are tropes because they work. This installment was just as sweet and well-written as the first book in the Scandalous series. The only small gripe I had with this one is that I wanted to smack both Indie and Linc and tell them to just admit their dang feelings to each other about halfway through the story. Regardless, this is a sweet, romantic story, and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
What’s Next?
This was such a light reading week, so this post was a little anti-climactic (sorry!). I don’t know what got into me this week, but I guess I just needed a break from books. Do y’all ever go through reading droughts like that?
Anyway, on deck we have The Key by Jennifer Anne Davis. I started this book at the beginning of the week, and just haven’t really gotten into yet. I honestly don’t think that’s the book’s fault – I just haven’t been in a reading mood. I’m excited to snap out of it and get into this book, because the premise of this series is right up my alley.
