This is a new book review blog, basically dedicated to keeping track of the 100+ books I read per year. New year, new me, new fun bookish activity. I read so many books and rarely review any, and I think it’s about time I start reviewing more often.

Welcome to the book blog world! What kind of genres are you into? I can see that you like YA, but I wondered if you had particular interests apart from that 🙂

Thanks!! I’ve been thinking of starting a book blog for years so I’m glad to finally be here 🙂
It’s actually funny that so many of the reviews I’ve posted so far are for YA books, because while I do absolutely love them, they’re not the majority of what I’ve been into reading lately. World War II fiction, like The Book Thief or The Nightingale, is pretty up there on my list of favorite genres. I could read dual-timeframe stories, a.k.a. everything by Susannah Kearsley, all day long. Also, I really like fantasy books; the Muirwood series by Jeff Wheeler and the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas are two of my favorites in that respect.
What are your favorite genres?

Ah, nice! I tend to read a lot of YA and SF/F too, but I’m fairly lax about genre, tbh. I like books that have plenty of humour while also being dark, and books that feature underrepresented groups (e.g. LGBTQ characters, disabled characters etc etc). At the moment I find YA is better at doing this so I read a lot of it, but I’m beginning to drift away from it a little as I get older, though I doubt I’ll ever entirely stop reading it. I’m a big fan of folklore-based stuff, e.g. fairies — I really liked ACOTAR and ACOMAF but I have to admit that I felt the third book was rather disappointing.

I joined Penguin’s First to Read program probably about a year ago now, and it has definitely widened my horizons as far as genre! I used to stay in the same YA/romance/historical fiction lane all the time, but I’ve loved branching out recently. They’ve also had a great selection of books featuring LGBTQ characters in the past few months (I think the most recent was Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh), which is really cool to see. I don’t think I’ll ever stop reading YA either – there’s just something about that genre that keeps me coming back!

Ooh, I’m not familiar with that program, I might have to check it out. I’ve definitely branched out since joining NetGalley, though — and have read way more LGBTQ books because it has its own category there.

It’s awesome, I highly recommend it. I want to join NetGalley for sure, but I’m thinking that I should take a couple months to really spend some time getting the hang of this whole book blogging thing before I add even more books to my ever-expanding TBR pile 🙂
